Tribute to “The God of Opera”

The transcendental music of Maria Callas, the Divine, continues to enchant and win hearts over time. In honor of the centenary of his birth, a special Lyric Gala will be held.

Panama Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted Master Victor Mata, is in charge of the event that will take place at the Ateneo de la Ciudad del Sabre, next March 7, at 8:00 p.m.

The gala will not only celebrate the lasting legacy of Maria Callas, but will also mark a historic moment in the cultural relations between Panama and Greece.

“This is the perfect event to start Panama’s relationship with Greece,” commented Greek Ambassador to Panama, Efthymios Efthymiades.

With the participation of the excellent Panamanian sopranos, Diane Durán and Susana Samudio, with the guest soprano from Costa Rica, Gisselle Lamiq, this Lyric Gala promises an unforgettable experience for opera and classical music lovers.

Singer Diana Durán stated: “Marija Kalas She is the first reference for all sopranos, she was the first soprano who received a fair salary”.

“Maria Callas is a perfect example of what the diaspora represents,” says Stefanos Koulouthros, member of the board of directors of the Hellenic Community of Panama, one of the event’s collaborators.’

Repertoire carefully selected will include some of the most emblematic arias that made María Callas famous, offering a musical experience that will delight connoisseurs and fans alike.

Additionally, as part of their efforts to make music accessible to everyone, they will offer translations of the lyrics in two languages: Spanish and English, in addition to the original language; to ensure that all attendees can fully immerse themselves in the beauty of music.

For his part, teacher Víctor Mata said: “We want people can understand the message and fully enjoy the experience.

“We are committed to providing a show at a very high level and make sure everyone feels welcome,” he added.
