The fact that ‘John Wick’ has made a difference in Hollywood action cinema can be seen not only in the success of the film series with Keanu Reeves, but also in the fact that there are now a number of imitators. Probably the most successful graduate of the John Wick Academy to date: “No one“in which ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ in particular, lawyer Bob Odenkirk mutates into a killing machine.
‘Nobody’ didn’t make a particularly big impression at the cinema – the film grossed a total of $55.7 million worldwide and 115,000 people bought a ticket in Germany – but ‘Nobody’ should have found a larger audience in home cinemas at the latest. Today, February 29, 2024, the work can be seen on VOX at 10:30 PM.
If that’s too late for you, the FSK 16 title is available from online retailers like Amazon as (4K/UltraHD) Blu-ray, DVD, or paid video-on-demand.
In our FILMSTARTS review, “Nobody” received a solid 4 out of 5 stars and right at the beginning the comparison is made with “John Wick”: “Of all people, no one gives John Wick serious competition!” writes our author Sidney Schering.
In fact, the comparison fits particularly well here: Because “Nobody” was written by Derek Kolstad written, who also wrote the scripts for all the previous “John Wick” films, and on David Leitch produced, who co-directed the first “John Wick” with Chad Stahelski and has since been responsible for action highlights such as “Atomic Blonde”.
The director, however, is Ilya Naishuller, who previously directed the brutal first-person shooter film experience ‘Hardcore’. And it is also thanks to the influence of these three filmmakers and the great Bob Odenkirk in the lead role that ‘Nobody’ has become one of the best action films of recent years.
The plot of “Nobody”
Family man Hutch (Bob Odenkirk) turns out to be a complete failure who works a boring job, is despised by his son Brady (Gage Munroe) and has a passionless marriage to his wife Becca (Connie Nielsen). Even when two burglars break into his house one night, Hutch stands there frozen.
But triggered by this experience and the ridicule he received for his inaction, a long-hidden side to the supposed failure slowly awakens. Hutch soon finds himself confronted with the concentrated power of the Russian mafia around his boss Yulian Kuznetsov (Aleksey Serebryakov).
