While the “Star Wars” series is in full swing, the saga is currently taking a hiatus after Episodes 7, 8, and 9 hit theaters. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t more big screen adventures from a galaxy far, far away at work behind the scenes. Kathleen Kennedy, the boss of Lucasfilm, is currently developing a slew of potential “Star Wars” movies from well-known directors, writers and producers (although this doesn’t guarantee we’ll see them all one day).
The latest “Star Wars” project comes from three-time Emmy-winning veteran Damon Lindelof (“Lost”, “The Leftovers”, “Watchmen”), who portrayed “Ms. Marvel” director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Again has now revealed, Lindelof is also the aspirant Justin Britt Gibson as a writing partnerwho was previously involved in Guillermo del Toro’s vampire series “The Strain” and the parallel world series “Counterpart”.
In addition, he wants but also learned where the new movie fits in the Star Wars timeline…
“Star Wars: Episode 10” – more or less
There are no official details about the newly announced film yet. The well-connected and usually very reliable however, has used its industry resources to shed at least some light on the matter. As a result, Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars Project after the events of “Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker” be settled. So is this going to be something like “Episode 10” of the Star Wars saga? Here the answer is “certainly” yes.
The film is not intended to be a direct continuation of the Skywalker saga, but to function as an independent story. Yet it is of course also a kind of sequel in which characters from the sequel trilogy must also appear. So it could z. B. come to a reunion with resistance heroes like Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) or Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). If it’s a success, the plot could also be directly linked to other movies, so we could potentially expect another trilogy (even if that’s not the plan from the start).
Developed in secret
Although the work on it has only just been made official, the new Star Wars movie is in the has been in development for months, which also explains why there were rumors circulating about Lindelof’s involvement in the popular franchise more than half a year ago.
Following this year’s Star Wars celebration in late May, there would have been a first secret gathering of an entire team of authors, including Patrick Somerville (“The Leftovers,” “Station Eleven”), Rayna McClendon (“Willow,” ” Obi-Wan Kenobi”) and Andy Greenwald (“Briarpatch”). “The Mandalorian” and “Clone Wars” creator Dave Filoni may have also been present as an advisor (although this has not been confirmed). After that, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson took the main responsibility for the script work.
‘Star Wars’ won’t hit theaters again until 2025?
It is still unclear when the continuation of the “Star Wars” saga will hit theaters. At this point, it’s probably still in limbo when the series will return to the big screen. If December 2023 was last the target of the next ‘Star Wars’ movie, he speaks now as of late 2025 as the earliest possible release time window for a new cinema project.
A further delay wouldn’t be too surprising either, given that it’s apparently still uncertain which of the many films still in the very early stages of development will be released first or not at all. In addition to the Lindelof contribution, there are also the “Rogue Squadron” film from “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins, the still possible trilogy from “Star Wars 8” creator Rian Johnson and “Star Wars” adventures by Taika Waititi and MCU mastermind Kevin Feige.
