Start date for next ‘Game Of Thrones’ spin-off confirmed: there will be a prequel after ‘House Of The Dragon’

It was recently announced that “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” will probably not be made into a film from the spring of 2024, as was actually planned. Instead, the start of production will be postponed to the summer of 2024. Fans feared that a start in 2025 would also be in jeopardy. But it must remain an optimal release, which will probably continue to guarantee new ‘Game Of Thrones’ material every year for the time being. Warner boss David Zaslav has now confirmed this in an investor call.

According to Zaslav, “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms” will be released in late 2025. This means that there will be the second season of ‘House Of The Dragon’ this year, the new spin-off next year and then the third season of ‘House Of The Dragon’ probably in 2026.

This is “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”

“The Hedge Knight” is about the titular hedge knight of Westeros, Ser Duncan the Great, and his squire Aegon Targaryen, named Egg, who will later become king of Westeros. They both travel together to a land where the Targaryens still rule, but where dragons no longer exist. The unlikely friends and reluctant heroes must embark on a series of adventures.

The series is set approximately 90 years before the events of “Game Of Thrones”. and will feature a smaller story with fewer special effects. After all, not only are there no dragons, there are also no major battles. Since the focus will be very clearly on the two main characters, fewer people and location changes can be expected.

Novelist and ‘Game Of Thrones’ creator George RR Martin personally developed the series with screenwriter Ira Parker (‘The Last Ship’). “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” will run for a total of three seasons with six episodes each. Each is intended to cover one of Martin’s three “Dunk & Egg” novellas, which were published in Germany, among other places, in the anthology “The Hedge Knight of Westeros: The Judgment of the Seven”.

The new prequel will initially be broadcast with the first spin-off ‘House Of The Dragon’. No cast has yet been announced for the two leading roles.
