Baking soda – this is also called a universal home remedy. Because this little magic potion doesn’t just help with baking cakes. It can do so much more! Baking soda can be used excellently for cleaning and odor control, among other things.

However, you should definitely check the content of baking soda before using it. Most versions contain baking soda, but there are some exceptions. If you only need white powder for baking, baking soda is not absolutely necessary. However, for our home hacks, you should make sure that the baking powder is also enriched with the same ingredient.

Unfortunately, the flowers in the vase fade quite quickly. Surprisingly, baking soda can extend the life of flowers. Add a teaspoon of baking soda or baking soda to the flower water. If it is a larger bouquet, you can add a little more. In this way, your cut flowers will not turn yellow and lose their brightness.

Baking soda proves that you can get sparkling white laundry without the need for any chemicals. Add a bag or two of baking soda to your whites the next time you wash them. The gray clothes soon begin to shine again.

Stains can also be treated with baking soda. Apply some powder and a few drops of water to the affected areas. After waiting for an hour, you can wash your laundry as described above. However, use this method only on light-colored fabrics because baking soda has a bleaching effect.

Silver jewelry and cutlery tarnish and darken over time. You can restore the shine of silver with baking soda. To do this, mix it with cold water in a small bowl until a liquid paste forms. You can then apply it to cutlery or jewelry with a brush and rub it.

There is a second method to restore the shine of silver: Put your silver in a bowl. Then add one tablespoon of the powder along with a liter of water. After about an hour you can polish the silver.

You don’t need an expensive descaler to descale your kettle. Baking powder is also suitable for this. Boiling one to two teaspoons of baking soda with water dissolves limescale. You should then clean the kettle briefly.

Even if you change the garbage bag regularly, unpleasant odors can accumulate in the garbage can. You can easily remove these with baking soda: Sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the bucket. This is how you can get rid of bad odors in the refrigerator. Place a plate with some powder on a shelf in the refrigerator. Voilà, it absorbs the scent after a short while.

Is your drain clogged? No problem, here again baking powder comes to our rescue. You can quickly clean the pipe with half a cup of vinegar and four tablespoons of baking soda. If you hear a bubbling sound coming from the drain pipe, this is completely normal. Once it becomes quiet, you can pour hot water down the drain.

Over time, brown deposits form in the toilet. To get rid of these, you can sprinkle some baking soda on the affected areas. Let it work for a while and rinse once. If baking soda residue is still visible, it can be easily removed with a brush.
