In “Playdate,” two opposing fathers must work together when they find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy. On the one hand we have Brian (played by Kevin James), who is very down at the moment. After being unexpectedly fired by his employer, he now takes care of their ten-year-old son as a stay-at-home father.
On his first day in his new role, he accepted an invitation from another stay-at-home dad for a kids’ play day. But Jeff (played by Alan Ritchson) proves to be quite unpredictable and drags Brian into a dangerous adventure. The play date of the title soon consists of the two fathers having to run for their lives with their children.
The action comedy ‘Playdate’ is directed by Luke Greenfield (‘The Girl Next Door’) from a script by Neil Goldman, who was responsible for numerous episodes of the series ‘Scrubs’. According to his own statement in the official announcement announcing the project, director Greenfield will be the model for the action-comedy classic “Midnight run“ with Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. His goal is to achieve its magic.
The producer behind the project, Mark Fasano, is full of praise for his leading duo in the statement. In no time, Alan Ritchson and Kevin James would have demonstrated a chemistry that one could only hope for. He is probably referring to rehearsals or joint screen tests, because the actual recordings have yet to take place. These are expected to start in March 2024.
“Playdate” could hit theaters or on a streaming service sometime in 2025. There is currently no date yet.
