While Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appeals to a younger audience with his teenage problems, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, appeals more to the older generation of Marvel fans, for example when he defends his Walkman with his life. then continuously listens to classics (not least from the 80s) – or when he talks about his great hero Kevin Bacon, who once rebelled against the small-town prudishness of Bomont with rock music and hip moves.
What started as a running gag in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was finally taken to the extreme in 2022: in “The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special” Drax, Groot, Rocket and Co. give their leader a very special Christmas gift – and quickly decides to kidnap the protagonist of “Footloose” to give him to her good friend! But who is this man from whom the swashbuckling Marvel hero gets his love of dancing and probably a bit of his penchant for rebellion and disobedience as well? This is exactly what you can now see for yourself in 4K for the first time:
Paramount Home Entertainment gives the two Oscar-nominated dance film cult a long-awaited home theater upgrade this week: “Footless“ will be released on February 22, 2024 as a strictly limited collector’s edition on the Steelbook – including UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray. If you don’t want to miss the film’s 4K premiere, you better hurry. The rush is already enormous given the strictly limited edition and the high cult factor.
“Footloose” in 4K: classic from the 80s in a new guise
Herbert Ross’s rebellious small town adventure is one of those films you can’t escape. As soon as the lively opening credits begin, with everyone dancing according to all the rules of the art to the world-famous, iconic title song, ‘Footloose’ makes it clear:
Whether you wear shiny patent leather shoes, dirty sneakers, high heels or slippers – this film is for everyone! And even 40 years later it still puts you in a good mood. After all, the film itself has long since become an undisputed classic, one that Ren, played by Kevin Bacon, and conservative Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow) would probably debate as heatedly today as they ever did about ‘Slaughterhouse 5’. ..
The new 2-disc set comes with an extensive package of bonus features ranging from audio commentaries and a slew of featurettes to Kevin Bacon’s screen test for perhaps his most iconic role yet – and will not only appear on your TV, but also packaged in A stylish, colorful steelbook also reflects the wild spirit of the 80s on the shelf. But Above all, the home cinema re-release is worth it because you can experience the film in unprecedented 4K quality.
It is probably not only for the author of this article that such celluloid films, once made in analogue form, are always an absolute highlight when they appear freshly restored in Ultra HD – and so it is an absolute pleasure to finally see “Footloose” in new form to see splendor to see shine. Bright colours, rich contrasts and sharper than ever before: the film looks better than ever, yet still looks the way it should. Revisions, in which classics often produced ‘waxy faces’, seemed to have been ‘smoothed out’ and thus even falsified the original film to a certain extent, are fortunately almost a thing of the past.
Please note: With its strictly limited 4K debut, ‘Footloose’ follows in the footsteps of, among others, ‘Flashdance’, of which the first edition of Steelbook sold out in a very short time. So if you really want the collector’s edition, you better not wait too long before buying it. If you miss it, a commercially available 4K standard edition will likely follow at a later date – just like “Flashdance”.
