Nothing until next year? NASA is looking for residents of Mars for a year-long simulation

The American space agency NASA is looking for ‘Martians’ for a year-long simulation of life on the red planet. Four volunteers will spend twelve months at ‘Mars Dune Alpha’ in Houston, Texas, starting in the spring of 2025.

The “Mars Dune Alpha” is a simulation area of approximately 160 square meters modeled after Mars, as NASA announced on Friday. There, the participants have to take care of the harvest, living space, machines and maintenance, as well as sports. This is the second simulation that is part of NASA’s ‘Chapea’ program, which is intended to prepare missions to Mars.

NASA said anyone who has a college degree in physical sciences and at least 1,000 flight hours can apply until April 2. In addition, applicants must be between 30 and 55 years old, “healthy and motivated,” not smoke, and have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. The use is reimbursed. (saw/sda/dpa)
