To put it bluntly: The important thing is that you eat fruit, whether fresh or dried. When it comes to health benefits, dried fruits actually retain most of their positive properties: be it apples, plums, apricots or grapes.

How healthy is dried fruit?

Dried fruits contain less water and offer less vitamin C. However, dietary fiber, carbohydrates in the form of fructose, secondary plant matter and minerals do not change at all or change very little during the drying process, even when stored for a long time. As a result, dried fruit can be counted among your five recommended daily servings of fruits or vegetables. Please note: In terms of quantity, one serving of dried fruit corresponds to approximately 20 to 30 grams (fresh fruit: 120 g).

Dried fruit has relatively few calories

Where does this big difference come from? Dried fruit has a relatively high fructose content, 60 to 70 percent, providing significantly more calories. This is precisely what provides the advantage: Dried fruits, for example, can quickly provide athletes with energy and thus replenish their reserves efficiently. Dried fruits are also ideal for keeping fit while hiking or on the ski slopes. They also enhance the muesli and satisfy your sweet tooth if you have a craving for it. Also positive: Dried fruit has only half as many calories as chocolate.

Drink a lot

Important: Don’t forget to drink water while eating. Dried fruits contain a lot of dietary fiber and the body needs more fluid. My recommendation: One or two glasses of unsweetened beverage per serving of dried fruit. Also pay attention to the quality of dried fruits. Sulfur-free versions are the most valuable. The color of the corresponding varieties is slightly less saturated, but they are guaranteed not to cause any side effects such as headache or nausea.
