Eleven Spanish and eight Latin American films will compete from March 1 to 10 at the twenty-seventh Málaga festival, which, according to director Juan Antonio Vigaro, will once again be the “common house” of Spanish-language cinema and wishes once again for his “singularity is generality”.
The official part “will receive all types formats, paths, contents, views and forms of production“in it, authorship will coexist with advertising, and careers with a long history with other research ones,” said Vigar this Wednesday in the presentation of the content.
The competition is at the moment “very prestige and national and international positioning“thanks to the decision starting in 2017 to “embrace” Latin American cinema in its official section, which “surprisingly made the embrace of Spanish cinema even more intense”, and the commitment to improve its field of industry “to benefit the sector”.
The festival has already announced that it will be the opening film ‘Dragonkeeper’ (‘Guardian of Dragons’), Salvador Simó, who will compete in his official section with the also announced ‘The Good Man’, David Trueba; ‘Little Love’ by Celia Rico and ‘Second Prize’ by Isaki Lacuesta and Polo Rodríguez.
To them were added the Spanish ‘We treat women too well’, by Clare Bilbao; ‘Hipster in empty Spain’, Emilio Martínez-Lázaro; ‘The House’, Alex Montoya; ‘The Abbess’, Antonio Chavarrías; ‘Nina’, Andrea Jaurrieta; ‘Pájaros’, Pau Durà, and ‘As Neves’, Sonia Méndez.
Latin Americans will compete together ‘Yana-Wara’, Óscar and Tito Catacora (Peru); ‘Rain’, Rodrigo García Saiz (Mexico); “Shipwrecked”, Vanina Spataro (Argentina-Uruguay); ‘Radical’, Christopher Zalla (Mexico); ‘Wild Woman’, Alán González (Cuba); ‘Golán’, Orlando Culzat (Colombia); “Rest in Peace” by Sebastián Borensztein (Argentina) and “Earth” by Verónica Chen (Argentina-Uruguay).
Latin American films out of competition will be ‘Como el mar’, by Nicolás Gil Lavedra (Argentina-Uruguay); ‘Shadow of the Sun’ by Miguel Ángel Ferrer (Venezuela-USA) and ‘Blue Bird’ by Ariel Rotter (Argentina-Uruguay).
