Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”: Director has seen the entire second season – that’s her verdict

Was the first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” too good for you? That should change in the second season of the fantasy series – because after the main characters were revealed in season 1, now it’s time to get down to business. Conflicts become more intense, evil in the form of Sauron (Charlie Vickers) gains power, and this also leads to a changed tone of the episodes…

As director Charlotte Brändström explains in an interview with Jonatan Blomberg explained, Season 2 of “The Rings of Power” will be “darker, edgier and more character-driven.” Brändström can also judge this well, after all, she not only directed some of the episodes of season 2 herself after she was also part of season 1, but also has already seen the rough cut of all the episodes of season 2.

Darker in tone, but not necessarily in appearance

The filmmaker gave herself a very special Christmas gift – because she watched the season during the holidays, as she explained in the interview. Of course, there is still a lengthy post-production process for the episodes, so it will take some time before the episodes start. We expect season 2 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” to come to Amazon Prime Video in the fall at the earliest, but more likely in the winter of 2024.

Brändström also talked some more about the second season, although she of course repeatedly emphasized that she could not reveal any details about the content. But she explained again that they had tried to make the season “darker and dirtier”, not in terms of images (so don’t expect a second “Game Of Thrones”), but in terms of story. It must be ‘as authentic as possible’.

Season 2 also has twists in store!

“We have some very surprising twists in store,” Brändström continued. That naturally makes you curious, since season 1 already relied heavily on keeping the audience guessing – for example about the identity of the stranger (Daniel Weyman) or about Sauron.

Charlotte Brändström directed, among other things, the episode “Udûn” for season 1, which resonated quite well with the audience precisely because of its rather dark tone and the long fight sequence with orcs. In season 2 of “Rings of Power,” she would now have directed four of the expected eight episodes.
