Since the trailer, ‘Star Wars’ fans have been discussing the ‘The bad batch“ revealed the return of Asajj Ventress. Because people actually thought she was dead. For anyone who doesn’t know the character, who has only been present in animated stories, comics and books, a brief introduction:
Asajj Ventress was born on Dathomir as a night nurse (we last saw her in “Ashoka”), but was sold into slavery as a baby. Turning out to be Force sensitive, she ended up joining the Jedi, but killed her master in revenge after killing her. After a few detours, she ended up with Count Dooku, who took her under his wing as a student and taught her the dark side of the force. During the Clone Wars, she served as an assassin and spy, crossing swords with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker several times. This plays a major role in ‘The Clone Wars’ series.
Most recently, Ventress, who was betrayed by Dooku and also worked as a bounty hunter and returned to the Night Sisters, starred in the novel “Student of the Dark Side”, also known as “Dark Disciple”, which was actually written for the series “The Clone Wars”, but never implemented scripts. In the story set during the Clone Wars, Ventress teams up with Jedi Quinlan Vos to stop Dooku. Ultimately, she sacrifices herself to save Vos. Her body is then taken to Dathomir to be buried with her sisters.
Precisely because of this new ending Many fans are now confused about how Asajj Ventress can appear in Star Wars: The Bad Batch. After all, the series takes place after her death. Is it a flashback to a past event? So far there is actually nothing to indicate this. Many fans were afraid that a so-called retcon would occur, that is, the canon would be rewritten and the events of the novel would suddenly no longer count.
But that is not the case, as Disney confirmed long ago in the person of Brad Rau. The longtime “Star Wars” creator, who serves as director and producer on “The Bad Batch,” first explained: “We love Asajj Ventress. She’s a character we wanted to tell more stories about.” But there is no feedback:
“We don’t want to provide any spoilers, but we want fans to know that any new story featuring Ventress will be consistent with the events of Star Wars: Disciple of the Dark Side.”
Will we see Quinlan Vos soon?
What’s interesting in this context is that the official listing for Asajj Ventress is also in the ‘Star Wars’ database has been updated. While this previously ended with her sacrificial death, the final sentence now reads: “But that was not the end of Asajj’s story…
How could she come back from the dead? We know that a lot is possible with the magic of the Night Sisters. But Quinlan Vos may also play a role again. After all, we know that the Jedi survived Order 66. Because when the title character in “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” played by Ewan McGregor, stumbles upon a secret underground network hiding Jedi, he sees the name Quinlan Vos and knows that his old companion has successfully gone into hiding.
Answers to all these questions will be available very soon. The third season of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch“ starts February 21, 2024 on Disney+. Then it starts straight away with three episodes. One episode will be released on February 28 and March 6, before two episodes are available on March 13. On March 20, the third season and the entire series will end with a grand finale.
