Fantasy fans can’t really complain, because such projects have been popping up like mushrooms since the mega-success of “Game Of Thrones”. But not every film or series that is announced actually sees the light of day. Things are looking pretty bleak for a series based on the novels ‘A Court Of Thorns And Roses’ by Sarah J. Maas.
The series was developed in the US for the streaming service Hulu, so in Germany it would most likely have come to Disney+. In this country the successful book series is called ‘The Empire of the Seven Courts’ and is very popular with fantasy fans, after the previous series ‘Throne Of Glass’ by the New York writer Sarah J. Maas had already conquered the bestseller lists.
Conflicting messages: canceled or not?
To develop the series, Sarah J. Maas worked with producer Ronald D. Moore, who also successfully launched the new adaptation “Outlander” and now also the “Outlander” prequel series “Blood Of My Blood”. It seems that he will have plenty of time for this – because noisy Hulu has stopped working on the series “A Court Of Thorns And Roses”.
It hasn’t been officially canceled yet, but the project is no longer in active development, which is about the same as what the industry magazine says added. But at this point there are conflicting reports and that is why there is still a glimmer of hope!
Because reported again that reports of the series’ cancellation were false“A Court Of Thorns And Roses” remains in development at Hulu, sources have confirmed to the magazine. The big question now is whether the project has merely been delayed but is actually still on the schedule at Hulu, or whether it is languishing in infamous development hell, not actually canceled but not actually actively underway either.
“A Court Of Thorns And Roses”: Uncertain Future
It seems unlikely that the fantasy series could find a new home on another provider, which is often the case when a streaming service doesn’t move forward with development. TVLine reports that Disney, the parent company behind Hulu, is not currently offering the project for sale to other platforms.
What will happen next for “ACOTAR,” as the series is being called by fans, remains to be seen, but one thing seems certain: fans shouldn’t expect the series to kick off too soon., if it ever comes to that. Just a few months ago, Ronald D. Moore shared a positive update on the project: a few scripts had already been written, but were currently on hold and needed actors to move forward.
The novel series ‘A Court Of Thorns And Roses’ consists of five parts and revolves around the young hunter Feyre Archeron, who travels from the land of men to Prythian, the realm of the Fae. There she becomes involved in political machinations at the Fae court and in great romances.
