This is a paid article offered by Jungfrau Railways
Hansruedi Burgener, head of Jungfrau Railways avalanche, track and rescue services, in front of the Lauberhorn run start building.

When others make themselves a cup of coffee in the morning or leisurely browse through the newspapers, he is already wrapped up warmly in his starter home 2,315 meters above sea level. Hansruedi Burgener (55) is the first person to ski down the famous Lauberhorn piste every day. “I check whether safety on the slopes is guaranteed, I look for dangerous spots and mark icy areas,” says the head of Jungfrau Railways avalanche, slope and rescue services. Before that, he and his colleagues opened the doors to giant slalom in the upper zone. From the starting house you will finally follow the traces of the ski cracks meter by meter: over the cross shot to the neutralized Hundschopf, through the water station underpass to the Haneggschuss and finally to the finish.

The runway has been disabled

The Lauberhorn route is very popular among skiers and snowboarders. This is not just due to its 4.5 kilometer length. “The passages you know from television are special,” Burgener says. “There are also breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and beautiful views of the valleys.” You don’t have to be a professional to try the famous route. «The black track has been prepared so that every good skier can ski this route. Hundschopf, for example, has been neutralized,” the piste patrol confirms. But beginners should leave their skis behind.

Hundschopf, Kernen-S, Haneggschuss or Ziel-S: hardly any race in the World Cup has so many famous landmarks. “I like starting Hundschopf the best,” says Burgener. “It’s not too steep and you can enjoy amazing views while driving.” The descent is a must for all winter sports enthusiasts. “You just need to see and ride this route!” But a certain respect is needed. “You shouldn’t imitate ski racers and try to get to the finish line as quickly as possible,” Burgener warns. “It is better to approach the route more slowly and arrive in the valley safely.”

211 kilometers of dream tracks

If you prefer something more comfortable on your skis or snowboard, the Jungfrau Region is also the perfect place for you. Awaiting winter sports enthusiasts, 211 kilometers of perfectly groomed tracks offer everything your heart desires: gentle slopes, steep slopes, snow and amusement parks, racetracks and powder fields. Added to this is the breathtaking panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
