“Bland, disgusting, unpleasant”: Brooklyn Beckham’s pop-up bar is not being received with love

The tip that squid softens if you add a wine cork to the cooking water has long been considered fake news by experts. Even if it is an old Sicilian wisdom. Is it not.

But an old wives’ tale that someone has recently come to believe in other contexts: Brooklyn Beckham, son of Victoria and David, model, photographer and chef by profession, prepares his Bolognese, or whatever it may be, with a wine cork. And certainly a few dog hairs, as observant observers noted.

Uber Eats UK promoted its big chef gig in London with Brooklyn’s Corked Cookery on January 25. Well, he wasn’t there himself, having dinner with his wife Nicola Peltz in Los Angeles, but he had organized a pop-up delivery service for Uber Eats in North London. For two whole days.

He had developed five dishes: a sandwich based on his grandmother’s recipe, chicken tikka masala, spaghetti bolognese, dumplings with pork and shrimp filling, cauliflower with buffalo wing marinade. So around the world once. Sounds logical. Every chef can do anything. The cost was about £12 each. Packaged in elegant black glossy paper bags with the text “Uber Eats Hosts Brooklyn Beckham”.

The magazine ‘Tatler’, which otherwise loves everything that comes from wealthy British homes and minds, got a taste of it. The verdict is devastating. And very funny.

«The taste of the different dishes was such a unique combination of bland and disgusting that it was difficult to find the “cool places” that served as inspiration. A shoe store? Its leathery dumplings and rubbery noodles certainly suggest that. A friend who tried the tikka masala complimented Beckham, saying it was actually quite impressive that something that “tastes like little” could “smell so unpleasant.”

Perhaps the food lost some of its flavor during the perilous journey to deep north London? But you’d actually have to cycle to New York and back (across the Atlantic) to justify this kind of sensory numbing.”

The ‘Tatler’ advised the ambitious future chef that he should ask his mother, who was a member of the Spice Girls, how to properly handle spices. It is not yet known how much money he will receive from Uber Eats for his stunt, but Uber Eats says “sufficient”.
