The world-famous Tenuta Ornellaia winery is hidden in the rolling hills near Bolgheri in Tuscany. On hot summer days, a refreshing sea breeze blowing through the elegant vineyards provides sufficient coolness. After the vineyards were first planted in 1981, the first official Ornellaia was followed four years later with 1985, a noble blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties. Nowadays, a small amount of Petit Verdot is also added to the wine.

High-priced wine pearls matured in French oak are now exported all over the world, including Switzerland. Our Blick reader Peter Zwygart is lucky because he owns two quality bottles of the 1990s. Both bottles have been stored in the climate cabinet since 1994 and are in excellent condition. He wants to know from Blick how much the two bottles are worth today and where he can sell them.

Nowadays, one has to pay around 250 francs for a well-preserved 0.75 liter bottle of Ornellaia 1990 in specialist stores. A possible sale via joint internet auctions would probably fetch around 150 francs per bottle. However, auction fees also apply. Of course, drinking may also be an option, but the wine has probably reached the end of its maturation phase and is slowly losing its quality.
