That’s what “The Witch: Subversion” and “The Witch: The Other One” are about
The teenager Ja-yoon (Da-mi Kim) lives in “The Witch: Subversion” a completely normal teenage life, enjoys hanging out with her best friend and helping her parents around the house. But the peaceful idyll is quickly over when the adolescent decides to participate in a talent show – which is broadcast nationally. Because suddenly more and more people appear claiming to know Ja-yoon. When one day a group of mercenaries overthrows her sweet home, the girl finally awakens unexpected powers. A brutal, albeit unintentional, massacre follows, which is not without consequences for Ja-yoon…
In “The Witch: the Other” There is also a massacre when a top secret research facility is attacked by terrorists. A single, nameless survivor (Cynthia) soon runs away, leaving the laboratory for the first time in her life. She is eventually picked up in the nearby forest by the unsuspecting Kyung-hee (Eun-Bin Park), who wants to help the girl. But she has no idea what creature she is dealing with here – and that the young woman has been hunted for a long time…
In their home country, the two films were not only nominated for several awards (and won some), they also became real box office successes – despite their relatively high age rating, which considering the brutal excesses with which director Hoon-Jung Park (“The Tiger” ), which often culminates in brutal martial arts performances, but is also totally deserved.
