“Ratched” by Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story”) turned out to be a real hit for Netflix. Not only could the series, which saw itself as a prequel spin-off of Oscar winner ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’, remain in the charts of the streaming service with the big red N for weeks. The first season also became the most successful series start of 2020. A second season was immediately commissioned. But as several industry publications such as Collider and Co. Now report, Netflix has now pulled the plug on this.
It is of course a shame that ‘Ratched’ was canceled after just one season, especially since the story was designed from the start to last two seasons. The focus here is on the eponymous Mildred Ratched (played by Sarah Paulson), who is played by Louise Fletcher in ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. She was awarded an Oscar for her deeply terrifying performance.
How she became this monster in a nurse’s coat is explored in detail in “Ratched.” We meet the young woman in the late 1940s and see her take a job at Lucia State Hospital in Northern California. In the facility, behind the walls of which disturbing experiments take place, Ratched is able to quickly rise and become a feared name for himself. Lead actress Sarah Poulson has also confirmed the end of the series:
The second season of Ratched would have provided a smooth transition between the Netflix series and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. What atrocities the dreaded head nurse might have witnessed (or carried out herself) in the second season remains a mystery. With a Netflix subscription you can still watch the first season, which contains eight episodes.
