Pope Francis received Martin Scorsese again

Pope Francis held a short meeting with American director Martin Scorsese, who is preparing a film about the life of Jesus, the Vatican reported.

Since 2018, director and producer visited the pope. This morning he was present at Paul VI classroom for general audiences on Wednesdays. Previously, he personally met the Pope in the Studio.

From the first meeting, in the Augustinianum with a group of young and old, they strengthened their relationships and exchanged ideas about work, family and faith.

“Dialogue between Martin Scorsese and Pope Francis continues”, Antonio Spadaro, undersecretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, announced on the X social network.

“Two men from genius and experience for whom the figure of Jesus has exceptional charm and value”, he commented.

The director, whose last film is Killers of the Flower Moon‘(‘The Moon Killers’), is preparing a film based on the novel ‘The Life of Jesus’ published in 1973 by the Japanese writer Shasaku Endo.from which he has already turned his work ‘Silence’ into a film about Jesuit missionaries who came to Japan to spread Christianity.

“I responded to a call that Papa made artists the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a script for a film about Jesus”, he announced on that occasion.

Scorsese (81) is currently working on an 80-minute film about Jesus, set in the present and will focus on the preaching of Christ.

The idea, as the Italian-American director explained to an American newspaper, came from Pope Francis and his call to the world of art.

“I responded in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a script for a Jesus movie,” Scorsese explained.
