With the horror series ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ and ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’, Oliver Jackson-Cohen became a megastar for a short time. Although the 37-year-old actor landed his first role in 2002 and had already been in the film business for almost two decades when the series came out, his popularity skyrocketed thanks to the Netflix series and its reach. Jackson-Cohen also landed more roles, including in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Oscar-nominated drama ‘Woman in the Dark’ and in the horror remake ‘The Invisible Man’.
However, a few years have passed since then and even the most loyal Netflix subscribers may no longer remember exactly what role Oliver Jackson-Cohen played in the horror series – and whether it would be right to have him at all can still be defined like a mega star. The actor recently spoke about this phenomenon in an interview with and declared his status as ‘Netflix famous’.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen especially observed the rapidly changing content on streaming platforms such as Netflix: “Being famous on Netflix… is interesting. You’re the most famous person in the world for a while and then the next thing comes along and takes over everything. In fact, Netflix and many other streaming providers such as Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ release several new films and series content every week, which also brings in more and more new stars.
If some actors don’t make it out of this bubble to the big screen at some point, they might disappear from the scene as quickly as they arrived. “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page also spoke in the interview on the ‘Death of the Movie Star’: ‘I’m not sure I ever went to the cinema to see the actors. I’m going to the cinema to see the movie. It’s like complaining that there are no rock stars among sound designers anymore. Is this one department not getting as much attention as usual? Stop crying.”
