James Gunn confirms: ‘House Of The Dragon’ star takes on coveted DC role

DC has found its new Supergirl: Milly Alcock! After “CODA” and “Locke & Key” actress Emilia Jones and Disney star Meg Donnelly were also in the running for the coveted role in early January, a decision has finally been made – and revealed directly by the boss himself:

As ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ mastermind and DC Studios boss James Gunn has now confirmed on social media, Alcock will step into the role of the Woman of Steel for his new comic universe – and thus inherit Melissa Benoist, who plays the Kryptonian plays. starred in six seasons of “Supergirl” (as well as “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Legends Of Tomorrow” and “Batwoman”).

“Milly is an incredibly talented actress and I am extremely happy that she will be part of the DCU,” Gunn writes on Instagram, where he appeared in ‘House Of The Dragon’, but was especially impressed by the versatility that the young actress demonstrated in the castings and screen tests for “Supergirl”.

Alcock, who celebrated her big break with the spin-off ‘Game Of Thrones’, embodies the character of Kara Zor-El, who was introduced by comic book artist Bilquis Evely, comic book writer Tom King and screenwriter Ana Nogueira, Gunn said about Alcock – and knew at least a competitor with Supergirl experience to beat: Meg Donnelly has already voiced the heroine in several animated DC films such as ‘Legion of the Superheroes’ and ‘Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths’.

Milly Alcock: A brand new Supergirl

In the DCU, the newly created comic universe and successor to the DCEU, the difference between Superman and Supergirl will be more apparent than ever, according to Gunn. In a statement, the comic book guru revealed that Kara’s story was much “more hardcore” as the title heroine had to watch everyone around her die horribly in her early years, while the later Husband of Steel was sent to Earth at some point. and was raised there by loving parents (via ).

When and in which film we will see Alcock as Supergirl for the first time remains to be seen. With ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’, whose director’s chair is still empty, she should have her own solo adventure. However, the film does not have a release date yet. Additionally, Kara is also expected to get involved sooner, which is why she is currently expected to make at least a small cameo appearance in the DCU opening film ‘Superman: Legacy’.

Directed by James Gunn, “Superman: Legacy” will hit theaters on July 10, 2025 and will then introduce the new team of heroes of the comic cosmos – especially of course David Corenswet as Superman / Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as his love interest Lois Lane.
