Dental consultations should be turned into educational opportunities, according to pediatric dentist Ana Carla Robatto, where the priority is learning about removing plaque (dental biofilm), which is crucial not only for dental health, but also for avoiding systemic inflammation.

Last year’s study that analyzed the correlation between caries in preschool patients and their quality of life highlighted the interconnection between oral conditions and general well-being.

“It is important that the first visits to the dentist begin with the appearance of the first teeth. We must be aware of the risk of caries, bacterial disease, and ensure that brushing teeth and proper guidance are integral parts of oral health education from an early age,” said Robatto, coordinator of children’s dentistry. at ABO Bahía and professor at Foufba.

In addition, during visits to the dentist, the specialist emphasized the relationship between diet and oral health, warning of the dangers of sucrose, present in sweet foods, because it contributes to the adhesion of bacteria and an environment conducive to caries.

He recommended combining effective oral hygiene, regular flossing and a balanced diet with regular visits to the dentist.
