Mexican actress Kate del Castillo will be one of the special guests XVI Domi Global Film Festivalnicano (FCGD)which will be held in Santo Domingo from January 26 to February 1, the organization reported on Wednesday.
Del Castillo, who played Teresa Mendoza in the popular soap opera ‘Queen of the South‘, will be present at opening ceremony at the National Theatre from the capital, where the career of his compatriot will be recognized Yalitza Apariciothe first indigenous woman to be nominated for a Oscar as the best actress, 2019, for her work in the film ‘Roma’.

The film ‘Once Upon a Time in the Caribbean’ by Puerto Rican Ray Figueroa will open the FCGD, which in this edition will be dedicated to Pericles Mejía, who is considered a pioneer of local cinematography, and the city of New York.
The meeting program includes films from festivals such as Sundance, Berlinale, Cannes, Tribeca and San Sebastián, according to a press release from the organization.
Films such as the Mexican ‘Tótema’, the Argentinian ‘Los Criminals’, the Chilean ‘The Colonists’, the Irish ‘In the Shadow of Beirut’ or the Venezuelan ‘In the Shadow of the Sun’ will be shown.
Likewise, the theme of diversity is highlighted, with works such as ‘Monster’ by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda and ‘I Love You Crazy’ by Spaniard Alejandro Marín.
In the documentary section, among other things, the documentary ‘The Photographer of 40’ by Chilean photographers Erika Santelises and Orlando Barria will be shown, which recreates the story of Pedro Aníbal Fuentes Berg, who discovered the photos of the opponent of the Dominican dictator Rafael Leónidas.
