New this week on Netflix: a ‘Modern Family’ star becomes a brutal drug kingpin, a David Fincher masterpiece and more

A new week has arrived and Netflix users obviously know that fresh streaming supplies are on the way. But if you were expecting a truckload of new movies and series, you’ll be a little disappointed. There are only a few highlights from the streaming giant this week, but there are some very nice treats included.

Like every Sunday, we have selected which films and series we think you can watch on Netflix between February 22 and 28, 2024. – of course, as always, neatly divided into days of the week:

Monday: A nasty thriller from the director of “The Killer”.

With ‘The Killer’, top director David Fincher proved last year that he is far from a thing of the past in Hollywood and has once again made a big hit with it. As of today, you will also find one of his best films as a streaming subscription on Netflix: “Gone Girl – the perfect victim“.

The 2014 thriller is masterful suspense cinema in perfection. Despite its running time of almost two and a half hours, ‘Gone Girl’ is gripping from the first to the last second – and also perfectly cast with ex-Batman Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. In any case, we can only recommend this dark psychological drama.

Tuesday: A movie for fans of “Poor Things”

Yórgos Lánthimos has just had a real big hit in the cinemas with ‘Poor Things’, which we already consider one of the best films of the 2024 cinema year and which received the highest rating in the FILMSTARTS review. Anyone who has now discovered their love for the extraordinary directing virtuoso and is interested in further works from his oeuvre is in luck, because from today you can also “The favorite“ can be found in the offer starting from the “red N”.

“The Favorite” is an excitingly filmed, wonderfully nasty historical film mix of lies and intrigue – peppered with strange characters and the unmistakable humor of Yórgos Lánthimo. Definitely recommended, not only for fans of beautifully designed costume films.

Wednesday: No exciting restarts

There’s a break in content on Netflix today. So enough time to catch up on the highlights of the past week? Have you seen “60 Minutes” with Emilio Sakraya? Not yet? Then now you have the perfect opportunity to do that.

Thursday: A ‘Modern Family’ star turns cruel

Sitcom fans mainly know Sofía Vergara as Gloria Maria Delgado-Pritchett from ‘Modern Family’. Jay’s smart wife (Ed O’Neill) is the de facto head of the family clan. In the new Netflix series “GriseldaWe now get to see a different side of Sofia Vergara, as the actress transforms into the feared Colombian cartel operator Griselda Blanco, who was known for her most ruthless and cruel treatment of her enemies.

If you find that too bloodthirsty and would rather look back to your own youth, you can take a look at “Masters of the Universe: Revolution“Clerks” and “Dogma” creator Kevin Smith, as showrunner, once again brings the iconic 80s hero He-Man to life and this time brings together an illustrious voice cast that will especially make science fiction fans sit up. In addition to “Star Wars’ icon Mark Hamill, who will lend his signature voice to villain Skeletor, ‘Captain Kirk’ William Shatner will also appear in the series’ sequel.

Friday: Action around the devastated South Korea

There is a lot of baking on Fridays in “Badland Hunters“. Already in the trailer of the action hit, fists are flying and explosions are roaring, it’s just so much fun. In the science fiction adventure genre mix, South Korea is in absolute chaos due to a massive earthquake and the capital Seoul is in ruins. The hunter Nam San (Don Lee) survived the disaster and befriends the teenager Choi Ji-wan (Joon-Young Lee).

But the young woman soon falls into the clutches of a mad doctor who wants to abuse her for his experiments and turn her into a raging mutated beast. Nam San cannot and will not allow this. Equipped with an impressive arsenal of weapons, he embarks on a breakneck rescue mission.

Saturday: Rest Day on Netflix

There are no exciting new starts at the streaming provider today.

Sunday: A Christian drama

If you want to have fun in a church way, you can go to Christian dramedy.”Jesus revolution“take a look. This is about the founding and rise of the Jesus People, which gained great popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, mixing old religious concepts with the hippie zeitgeist – and so the demand for ‘free love’ became the desire for a ‘ free love for God’. .
