All upcoming “Star Wars” films and series on Disney+ at a glance: what will be released when, and what will no longer be released?

What ‘Star Wars’ projects will be coming in the coming years? What ideas have long been rejected? Will MCU mastermind Kevin Feige actually make another “Star Wars” movie? And what is the status of the continuation of the Skywalker saga with Daisy Ridley as Rey?

In recent years, there have been repeated reports of new “Star Wars” projects – whether for the cinema or for the Disney+ streaming service. Often there were no official announcements at all, only information from insiders. In many cases it was probably just ideas and possible concepts being discussed, but many fans immediately raised their hopes and expectations.

That’s why we now have an overview of all “Star Wars” projects, which is constantly updated. In addition, there is also our ‘Star Wars’ timeline article, which gives you an overview of the chronological order of all ‘Star Wars’ stories in cinemas and on TV.

Our overview divides all projects into four categories. This way you can see at a glance which films and series have actually been announced by Disney and Lucasfilm for the cinema or Disney+, which only have reports but the status is uncertain, and which titles will no longer be available (at least for the time being). being).

These ‘Star Wars’ movies need to come to theaters!

  • The Mandalorian and Grogu: A cinematic adventure of Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his companion Grogu. It will likely be the next ‘Star Wars’ movie in theaters. Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”). Expected theatrical release: May 2026!
  • Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order: 15 years after “Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker” Rey (Daisy Ridley) revives the Jedi Order. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) directs. This could also hit theaters in 2026, as there are two films coming out that year, one in May and one in December. Recent rumors about a cancellation and postponement are probably without basis. Only “The Mandalorian & Grogu” was brought forward, so “Star Wars 10” will be the next movie and not the next.
  • Dawn of the Jedi: “Logan – The Wolverine” director James Mangold tells the story of the very first Jedi. The film is set approximately 25,000 years before the events of George Lucas’ original trilogy. The film could hit theaters in December 2027.
  • Mandoverse Final: Director Dave Filoni (“Ahsoka”) will conclude the story of all series of the so-called Mandoverse with an epic film. It is likely that several characters such as the Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) team up against villain Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). It could also have a 2027 date instead of the Logan movie, but it probably isn’t scheduled until 2028.
  • Project by Taika Waititi: Teaming up with ‘1917’ author Krysty Wilson-Cairns, ‘Jojo Rabbit’ director Taika Waititi is creating a ‘Star Wars’ adventure. But this is still being developed.

These ‘Star Wars’ series are coming to Disney+

  • The Bad Batch – Season 3: The Bad Batch clone troopers return to Disney+ for a new adventure in 2024. It will be the final season as they continue their fight against the growing empire.
  • The acolyte: One of two live-action series coming to Disney+ in 2024. It goes back to the time of the New Republic, when the Jedi were at the height of their power. But the Sith are secretly planning. Leslye Headland (“Matryoshka”) is responsible for the series.
  • Skeleton crew: The second live-action series coming to Disney+ in 2024. It’s set in the Mandoverse and is about some kids who steal a spaceship and then go on a big adventure. The series with Jude Law comes from Jon Watts, creator of the MCU “Spider-Man” trilogy.
  • Tales of the Jedi – Season 2: Another animated short series directed by Dave Filoni emerge and deepen the lives of various characters. Should come to Disney+ in 2024.
  • Andor – Season 2: Continuation of the series about rebel spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and the merger of different groups into a rebellion. The second season of the series from creator Tony Gilroy (“The Bourne Legacy”) will come to Disney+ in 2025.
  • Ahsoka – Season 2: A second season of the adventures of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Co. have already been confirmed and are in the works. It is not yet known when the sequel will be released. This will not be the case until 2025 at the earliest.

The status of these ‘Star Wars’ projects is uncertain

  • Project by Shawn Levy: “Deadpool 3” director Shawn Levy is working on a “Star Wars” project – recently rumored to focus on Rey (Daisy Ridley) stands. It would probably be a kind of “Star Wars 11”.
  • Young Jedi Adventures – Season 2: The missing episodes of the first season will be released in February 2024. What it will look like after that is still unknown.
  • Lando: Initially in circulation as a series, but now probably planned as a film by and starring Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) as Lando Calrissian. Donald Glover will likely continue working on the script with his brother Stephen Glover, but it is unknown whether the project will come to Disney+ or in theaters (or perhaps be scrapped).
  • The Mandalorian – Season 4: Originally planned fourth season of “The Mandalorian”. It is currently unknown if the upcoming film “The Mandalorian and Grogu“This completely replaces or appears in addition.
  • A new trilogy by Rian Johnson: After “Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi,” director Rian Johnson came to Lucasfilm with an idea for his own trilogy, which was received with great enthusiasm. Little new has happened since then. Although the project was canceled several times, everyone involved repeatedly indicated that they wanted to continue with it, but that the timing and circumstances had to be right.
  • A Droid story“: An animated film announced back in 2020 with a new droid at the center, but also supported by C-3PO and R2-D2. There hasn’t been an update on the title in quite some time, which isn’t entirely unusual for animated projects, but still raises concerns that the project might not happen.

These ‘Star Wars’ projects probably won’t happen again!

  • Knights of the Old Republic“: In 2019, news broke that Shutter Island author Laeta Kalogridis was filming the hit video game Knights Of The Old Republic. With no new information since then, the project appears to be dead for now – perhaps things will change again with the circulating remake of the game itself.
  • The Rogue Squadron: Adventure of ‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins about dogfights in the ‘Star Wars’ universe, which was once planned for a theatrical release in December 2023. The project was never officially canceled, but according to all information it can be assumed that the script has failed and that a line has been drawn.
  • Project by JD Dillard: “Devotion” director JD Dillard also developed a project that would be about the world of aviators and pilots, but according to the director himself, this will not be followed up.
  • Project from MCU mastermind Kevin Feige: Kevin Feige, who is responsible for the large Marvel universe, is said to have approached Lucasfilm with an idea for a ‘Star Wars’ film. He was given the green light to commission author Michael Waldron (“Loki”) to write a script. But little by little the project fizzled out – probably also because Feige and Waldron are too involved in the MCU.
  • Rangers of the New Republic: Series in the Mandoverse about the adventures of the law enforcement officers of the fledgling New Republic. The focus was originally going to be Gina Carano’s Cara Dune. After parting ways with the actress following anti-Semitic statements and conspiracy stories, the project was likely buried. Elements important to the overarching Mandoverse story have arguably been incorporated into other series such as “The Mandalorian” And “Ahsoka“shifted.
  • Project from the makers of “Game Of Thrones”.: David Benioff and DB Weiss were going to make a Star Wars movie after Game Of Thrones ended. Ultimately, her idea fell through at Lucasfilm. As they’ve now revealed, they wanted to make a movie about the beginnings of the Jedi – but Lucasfilm would rather do that now James Mangold (see above “Dawn of the Jedi“) tackles.
