We owe many classics from film history to director Robert Zemeckis. From the series ‘Back to the Future’ to ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Contact’, the filmmaker has set the cash register ringing more than once and has also gathered millions of fans around him. Another work of his, which now has a real cult status, especially at Christmas, is the animated film “The Polar Express”, which was released in 2004.
In it, after “Forrest Gump” and “Cast Away”, Zemeckis again collaborated with Tom Hanks and directed him in the role of a conductor who leads a diverse group of children on the fairytale Polar Express to the North Pole. While there have been constant rumors about a possible sequel since the film’s release, these rumors have now apparently turned into a more concrete plan.
Producer of ‘The Polar Express’ gives hope for a sequel
Because as Gary Goetzman, who was involved in the animated film as a producer, now says in an interview revealed that “The Polar Express 2” is high on his to-do list. This is how he answered the question whether we can expect a sequel to the Christmas classic: “That’s something that’s definitely being worked on, ‘Polar 2’. Yes.”
However, Goetzman also explained that it’s not always just a matter of whether or not you want to continue a film series. The producer would like to see sequels to a whole series of his blockbusters – such as ‘Where the Wild Things Are 2’ or ‘Mamma Mia 3’. However, achieving this takes time.
It is still unclear whether director Robert Zemeckis would be on board for a possible ‘The Polar Express 2′. There is also the question of Tom Hanks’ possible involvement. First up, Goetzman and Hanks are in the starting blocks for the historical drama ‘Masters Of The Air’, which arrives on Apple TV+ on January 26. Both were involved as producers, while the cast is led by “Elvis” stars Austin Butler and Callum Turner (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”).
