If you want to see far, you must aim high. Ideally on top of a mountain well above tree line. This doesn’t necessarily have to be uncomfortable or tiring: many peaks have excellent mountain restaurants. It is easy to reach by gondola.

The magnificent eye-catcher of the Swiss mountains is the Fiore di pietra (stone flower) on Monte Generoso. The angular building is now considered the landmark of Monte Generoso and has become Ticino’s most famous viewpoint.

People eat the highest food in Valais

The revolving restaurant at Hoher Kasten in Alpstein is a real crowd-pleaser. In 2016, the cable car took more than 200,000 guests up the mountain near Brülisau AI. Another 360-degree panoramic restaurant is likely to attract even more visitors: “Piz Gloria” in the Schilthorn in the Bernese Oberland. The mountain is very popular with international guests, thanks to the legendary chase scene in the 55-year-old James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”.

Zermatt VS has the highest mountain station in Europe. Matterhorn Glacier Paradise restaurant is also located at 3,821 meters. An elevator takes you up to the viewing platform with views of 38 quads and 14 glaciers.

Adrenaline enthusiasts celebrate Mont Blanc

The Jungfraujoch near Grindelwald BE (3,466 m above sea level) and the “Aiguille du Midi” near Chamonix (F) on Mont Blanc (3,842 m above sea level) are in the same altitude class. Jungfraujoch has become world famous thanks to its restaurants and glacier garden: More than a million people visit the Bernese Mountain every year. The restaurants serve international classics and Swiss specialties with views of the Bernese Alps.

“Aiguille du Midi” in Mont Blanc, France, delights its guests with a bridge between two cliffs and a glass box below which a 1000-meter cliff opens. Excitement is guaranteed.

Panorama even in a quiet place

Restaurants remain at the top of Austria. The 007 crime thriller “Spectre” (2015) took place at the design restaurant Ice Q in Sölden (A). Visually modeled on a block of ice, the cube fits elegantly into the mountain world. Here too, the suspension bridge leading to the viewing platform at a dizzying height gives you the necessary adrenaline.

A unique combination of panoramic platform and summit bar rises above the Obergurgl ski resort in Ötztal (A). Mountain Star star bar, which offers panoramic views while enjoying cubli and caviar, can only be accessed from a narrow ridge at an altitude of 3,082 meters.

The Crystal Cube in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area is small but beautiful. Special meals are served in the mini gourmet restaurant, located directly on the ski slopes. The glass cube has room for a maximum of ten people. Guests don’t have to miss the view even when using the toilet: One wall of the toilet box at an altitude of 2,600 meters is nothing more than a simple mirror panel. (gif)
