Blick reader Nicole Schlaefli became a proud mother in 2022. She wants to buy a special wine for this celebration. But this should not be just any bottle, but a high-quality wine that can be stored at least until the child’s 18th birthday, that is, until 2040.

“Wine must retain not only its drinkability but also its value.” The purchase price of the bottle should be between 50 and 80 francs. An exciting question that will definitely attract the attention of many more people: According to the Federal Statistical Office, a total of 82,371 live births were recorded in Switzerland in 2022.

Bordeaux and Rhone Valley in focus

The two wine regions predetermined for Blick reader Nicole Schlaefli’s search criteria are located in France. In both Bordeaux and the wider Rhone Valley, 2022 was a very good vintage, producing many long-lasting and affordable wines. When it comes to color, we recommend a well-structured red wine from a renowned winery known for the longevity of their wines.

For the Bordeaux region, wines from Châteaus Giscours, Brane-Cantenac, Pape Clément, Pichon-Longueville-Baron, Troplong Mondot or Domaine de Chevalier will be considered. However, most Bordeaux wines from the 2022 vintage will not be delivered until spring 2025. Experience has shown that the value of listed wines is likely to remain relatively stable over time and may even increase slightly.

Red wines of the French Rhone Valley from the promising 2022 vintage will take their place on the wine shelves of leading wine stores this year. For example, from the southern appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape there are excellent wines of Clos des Papes, Clos Saint Jean or Château de Beaucastel, while in the northern Rhone Valley wineries Vincent Paris, René Rostaing or Guigal produce wines from 50 to 50 per 0.75 liter bottle in this series. It produces wonderful wines between 80 francs.
