The director revealed that she had a very special association with the name that went beyond the real connection: “Someone asked me why the film was called ‘Saltburn’ and I said, ‘Well, it’s a real town in England.’ And when I heard the name, I thought it sounded like a sexual violation, but a very nice one. You know, like a stab, a pleasant stab. And I guess that’s what the movie really is, right?
Fennell is referring to the many erotic scenes between Barry Keoghan and his co-stars Jacob Elordi, Alison Oliver (“Conversations with Friends”) and Archie Madakwe (“Midsommar”) in “Saltburn”, which, however, are due to different plots. twists and turns that are transported into the dark. Saltburn, on the other hand, can be found twice on the British map. The North Yorkshire town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea itself is about 250 miles from Oxford, where Oliver and Felix go to university together. However, instead of naming the town where Felix’s family lives, the Catton family estate is called “Saltburn” in the film.
This in turn was filmed at Drayton House in Lowick, Northamptonshire, which actually has nothing to do with the town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea and is over 210 miles away. The second Saltburn, on the other hand, is located in the Scottish Highlands, not far from the famous city of Inverness. Here too there is no direct connection with the film.
