The franchise “Conjuring” is one of the best horror series of the moment. Even if “The Conjuring 3 – Im Ban des Teufels” was no longer convincing across the board, “The Conjuring – The Visitation” and “The Conjuring 2” are absolute highlights that caused fear and terror even among experienced genre audiences. The horror series also really hit the box office: the three films grossed more than $800 million (with a combined budget of nearly $100 million).
As has now been confirmed, “Conjuring 4” is officially in development. The screenplay is again by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also wrote the templates for “Conjuring 2” and “Conjuring 3”. The horror sequel is being produced by James Wan (director of the first and second Conjuring) and Peter Safran.
James Wan also confirmed in an Instagram post that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Quite an important fact, as the demonologist duo is not only the iconic and emotional figurehead of the series, but also inspired by facts, because the Warrens were real! It is not yet known whether they will also be the pivot of the story in part 4. But they sure are.
It is rumored that Michael Chaves, who has already staged “The Conjuring 3”, will also direct the fourth part. However, nothing in this direction has been confirmed so far. At the moment Chaves has other things on his mind too, as the shooting of “The Nun 2” has recently started, for which Chaves is also responsible for the staging.
As of now, The Conjuring 4 has no release date. If there’s any truth to the suspicion that Michael Chaves is going to direct, we’ll have to wait (slightly) longer anyway. It is already known when another James Wan horror series will continue: “Insidious 5” is scheduled for July 6, 2023 in German cinemas and will finally be a classic sequel again.
