The sleeper himself does not suspect anything, but his partner does: he makes a crackling sound at night. Nearly one in five people reportedly grind their teeth. This wears down the teeth over time, in the worst case scenario until they crumble. The jaw joints wear out and many grinders experience pain in their jaw during the day, but also in their head and neck: The muscles become tense due to constant grinding (bruxism). As a result, pressing can create a pressure equivalent to 150 kilos.

Crunch reduces stress

The plastic anti-friction splint fitted by the dentist helps relieve external symptoms. However, it is a wrong approach to think that “everything is going well in the rail system”.

Even the best splint won’t help the real problem: internal emotional tension. Therefore, it is important for the crackling to admit to himself: “I am under pressure.” First, he should take an internal inventory and ask himself what is stressing him out and whether it is possible to stop it. We sit all day. But the pressure to perform is high. We try to eliminate this difference at night. What helps against this? Eliminate stress. But patients don’t want to hear this because everyone knows stress is unhealthy.

More sports and rest

It is well known that people who exercise a lot or do yoga regularly also have better mental health. But a couch potato doesn’t become a sports fan overnight. Especially since the positive effect begins with exercise at least three times a week and at the earliest after two months. Better than dealing with it yourself is to ask for help.

The dentist will know specialist psychotherapists or contact persons who can help you cope with mental tension and show you practical ways to control it.
