According to a study by Health Promotion Switzerland, 300,000 employees are at risk of burnout. This condition can manifest itself with different symptoms. More than half of employees at least occasionally suffer from back pain, constant fatigue, internal tension, fatigue or sleep disorders. Deep fatigue and a feeling of inner emptiness are typical. Headaches, digestive problems or tinnitus also often occur.
Constant availability causes one in four people to feel anxious. But many people have smartphones etc. finds it increasingly easier to use. Although this stress factor has decreased in comparison, new consequences of digitalization in the workplace are emerging. Employees worry that they will not be able to cope with new technologies and will be replaced by robots or computers.
It’s important to remember that working people aren’t the only ones who can experience burnout. Mothers and teenagers can also be seriously affected. Burnout often affects people who are highly committed and conscientious. The consequences of this can be seen in social behavior as well as on a psychological and physical level.
In the psychological field, those affected complain of fatigue and inner emptiness. They show depressive and aggressive features. The ability to concentrate is often impaired. Physical symptoms include indigestion, headache, insomnia or excessive need for sleep.
Dealing with people is neglected. We have almost no free time left. Substance addiction (coffee, alcohol, nicotine) compensates for social life. Mistakes are covered up in the workplace. And they are increasingly trying to compensate for this with overtime. This creates a vicious circle.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) has compiled a list of signs that indicate burnout:
Increased consumption of substances that make you alert and productive.
The more warning signs and the more frequently they occur, the more likely you are to experience burnout. Then you need professional medical or psychological help. The employer often looks the other way. This is despite the fact that he has a duty of care to his employees and must be concerned about their well-being. For now, it benefits from the employee’s hard work; he only incurs high medical expenses while he is away.

inner face. Only then can you ask for help. The recovery process is accompanied by a family doctor or psychiatrist. Maybe you need a break or part-time work phase. Remember where you get your strength from and continue with this activity.
