Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jurassic Park’ has been around for over 30 years and can therefore rightly be described as a blockbuster classic. In the film, stars such as Sam Neill (“Where the Wild People Hunt”), Laura Dern (“Blue Velvet”), Richard Attenborough (“Gandhi”) and Jeff Goldblum (“The Fly”) deliver fantastic performances. But in addition to the established acting greats, two child stars also captured the hearts of the audience: Joseph Mazzello And Ariana Richards played siblings Tim and Lex, who had to defend themselves against bloodthirsty lizards and other primal dangers.
While the careers of the “big” stars were easy to follow even after “Jurassic Park,” very few people know how Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards found success after appearing in the cult blockbuster. While Ariana Richards worked as an actress until 2001 and then only in 2013 took on another role in the TV trash film ‘Battledogs’, but has since completely devoted herself to painting, Joseph Mazzello is still active in Hollywood today – and even starred in one of the most successful films of 2018.
He was the Queen bassist in “Bohemian Rhapsody”
He co-starred with Rami Malek in “Bohemian Rhapsody“. There he took over the role of John Deacon, the bassist of the legendary rock band Queen – and was therefore one of the most important characters in the film. The musician biopic grossed more than $900 million at the box office worldwide in 2018, making it one of the most successful films of the year. In Germany it was even enough to reach number one in the annual charts, as more than 4 million filmgoers flocked to cinemas to see the film. But probably very few people in the audience would have associated the actor with his role in ‘Jurassic Park’.
But that was by no means the only major role that the American child star played: Joseph Mazzello appeared in front of the camera together with Jesse Eisenberg, for example, in David Fincher’s Mark Zuckerberg biopic ‘The Social Network’. He also appeared as Mouse in the action hit “GI Joe 2: The Reckoning.” Fans of the gripping miniseries “The Pacific” may also know him as Corporal Eugene Sledge.
By the way, the actor had already made some film appearances before his trip to Jurassic Park: in 1990 he made his film debut in the Harrison Ford-led thriller ‘For Lack of Evidence’ and then took on the role together with an also very young Elijah Wood (“Lord of the Rings”) the lead role in Richard Donner’s “Flight into Adventure”.
