Josh Hutcherson (“57 Seconds”) is currently in theaters in “The Beekeeper” and takes on Jason Statham, who as usual is not exactly easy to eat with. The action thriller from David Ayer (“Suicide Squad”) is quickly becoming a hit – and Hutcherson knows that all too well. Last year, the actor also appeared in ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’, the most successful horror film of 2022. A sequel has already been decided.
Before Josh Hutcherson would take on one of the leading roles in the ‘Hunger Games’ series, among others, he was about to star in the 2012 superhero reboot ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. As we now know, the role went eventually to Andrew Garfield. In an interview with (through ) Hutcherson has now spoken about the fact that he was not told at all why they chose a different actor:
Josh Hutcherson on leaving Spider-Man
“In the end they just hire someone else. I haven’t figured out why yet. I also know that I was accepted into The Hunger Games about three weeks after my audition for The Amazing Spider-Man. So it worked out.”
In the interview, he also stated that he has been a lifelong fan of Spider-Man. Just because it wasn’t enough in the end for “The Amazing Spider-Man” doesn’t mean Hutcherson won’t still be seen as a friendly neighborhood spider in the future. The multiverse has now opened up all possibilities for action – and Hutcherson would not be averse to getting involved: “Yes, I would be willing. I would shoot a few nets.”
Whether this will ever happen remains to be seen. In any case, it didn’t hurt Josh Hutcherson’s career that he didn’t get to play the “Amazing Spider-Man.” In the end, he even got lucky, because even though the planned Spider-Man trilogy never happened (the reboot series was canceled after “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”), Hutcherson was able to appear in all four “Hunger Games” as Peeta. movies.
