For Kristen Stewart, 2019 would mark the year in which she ventured back into mainstream cinema after an extensive foray into indie filmmaking. She joined Elizabeth Banks’ remake of “Charlie’s Angels,” which was released by Sony Pictures with a budget of approximately $50 million. Although the action film was met with mixed reactions and only received a weak 2 out of 5 stars in our FILMSTARTS review, the reboot only managed to rake in around $73 million at the worldwide box office.
In addition to this rather disappointing evaluation, the action reboot’s starting point apparently wasn’t exactly good for Kristen Stewart. Because as the “Twilight” star said in an interview with explained that she hated making “Charlie’s Angels” at the time.
Kristen Stewart would have preferred not to do a ‘Charlie’s Angels’ reboot
That’s how Stewart should be guessed some of her script lines from previous films and was confronted with the following line from the action film’s opening scene: “Did you know that it takes men seven seconds longer to see women as a threat than men?”
The “Twilight” star replied: “That was quite a tongue twister at the time. I remember saying that. The line comes from a movie called ‘Charlie’s Angels’. We wanted to get off to a strong start, you know? We wanted to reveal what this film is really about. It was a good idea at the time. But I hated making that movie.”
The reason for her intense feelings is mainly because Stewart original film adaptation starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Berrymore and Lucy Liu from the year 2000 that I love so much: ‘I don’t know what to tell you. You just can’t get close to these three. Cameron, Lucy and Drew…I love this movie.”
After “Charlie’s Angels,” Kristen Stewart once again left mainstream cinema behind and instead went all out on the indie playground, where the actress is currently in the starting blocks with two new films. Both the crime thriller ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ and the science fiction novel ‘Love Me’ will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the US in a few days.
