This is actually a long-standing phenomenon; but it has only been officially known as “Dry January” since 2014: a sober month! It is easy to explain why it is easier for us to abstain from alcohol on New Year’s Eve, and why per capita alcohol consumption is significantly lower than during the rest of the year: First of all, we try not to repeat our annual good resolutions at New Year’s. the first few days to shoot against the wind. For me personally, the first two weeks of abstinence are a downright pleasurable affair. I’m also stopping eating meat during this period and even trying to go vegan this year. But I’ve already proven to myself that controlling my wine and meat consumption works over a longer period of time. It’s just a matter of staying committed: tasting events are being reorganized in the wine industry, and après-ski events are quickly making a comeback: the laid-back conviviality. It’s also important to ignore one of the strangest “holidays” of the year: January 17, the so-called “New Year’s Resolution Day.”

After all, I don’t need to give up wine completely. Even in the best gastronomy, soft drinks have been booming for several years. Bottles that you can enjoy even while driving. Beyond the “Dry January” period, increased health awareness and strict alcohol limits, especially in traditional wine countries, accelerated the development of high-quality soft drinks. Nowadays, non-alcoholic wines are no longer welcomed and are not considered grape juice, but are produced like real wine. They do not differ much in terms of smell and taste.
