“Game Of Thrones”, DC and Netflix shine in the race for coveted superhero roles: who will be the new “Supergirl”?

While the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has finally come to an end with ‘Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom’, ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ director and DC mastermind James Gunn has long since set the course for a new universe: this DCU. This includes not only bringing back one or two heroes like “Blue Beetle,” played by “Cobra Kai” star Xolo Maridueña, but also introducing or recasting characters.

While David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane await us in “Superman: Legacy” (theatrical release: July 10, 2025), Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El should also be involved in the comic universe. Superman’s cousin Kal-El was introduced in the 1960s and over time got a feature film and a series that ran from 2015 to 2021. Melissa Benoist played the Kryptonian in 126 episodes of that format, but is now not one of the candidates for the role in the DCU. If according to an exclusive report from the following three actresses have been shortlisted for the role:

Milly Alcock is best known for her role in “House of the Dragon” known. In the critically acclaimed spin-off ‘Game Of Thrones’, which recently celebrated its German free TV premiere on ProSieben, she can be seen in the role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. The 23-year-old Australian has not appeared in major films so far and has mainly appeared in television series such as ‘Upright’ and ‘Reckoning’.

Emilia Jones you’re most likely the lead actress in Apple’s Oscar-winning drama’CODA” and the Netflix series “Locke & Key” know, in which she plays one of the main characters of the same name. As a teenager, she already appeared in star-studded productions such as ‘Eternal Youth’ with Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel or ‘High-Rise’ with ‘Loki’ star Tom Hiddleston.

Meg Donnelly is probably the least known candidate – but also the only one with Supergirl experience. In addition to several appearances in Disney’s “Zombie” series and over 100 episodes of the “American Housewives” series, she also has several appearances as Supergirl, voicing the heroine in the animated DC films such as “Legion of the Superheroes” and “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

How In additionAll indications are that the final decision will likely be made via screen tests in the coming month. In addition, DC boss James Gunn himself is also part of the process, as the character is not expected in her own film ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’, but rather. Maybe there’s already a small cameo appearance in the Gunn-directed “Superman: Legacy”?
