Finally! Zombie Milestone With “Oppenheimer” Star To Be Followed Up With A Horror Trilogy Worth More Than $200 Million

Long before ‘The Walking Dead’ flashed across the screens in 2010, the zombie genre had already undergone a successful makeover shortly after the turn of the millennium – and with apocalypses as diverse as Danny Boyle’s ’28 Days Later’ (2002) and Zack Snyder’s ‘ Dawn Of The Dead” remake (2004) got back on track. Boyle impressed with a cold-blooded mix of apocalyptic horror, undead shockers and social criticism – with which ’28 Weeks Later’ also convinced a few years later. However, fans waited in vain for part 3. Until now.

Over time, a third film, which could have been called “28 Months Later,” became a recurring topic. However, the plan never became really concrete. That changes now: Director Danny Boyle and author Alex Garland are now finally (!) coming together again to “28 years later“start. He reports that . But that’s not all: After a long time it seemed that there would be no sequel at all, a whole zombie universe is now being worked on.

“28 Years Later”: 3 (!) sequels?

Again reported that the project will be offered to possible interested parties – cinema studios and streaming services – during the week. And It should be not one, but three new films in the series. It is unknown whether these might even cover “Months”, “Years” and “Decades” or tell a big, closely related storyline over three films.

However, what we already know is that Oscar winner Boyle (“Trainspotting,” “Slumdog Millionaire”) will return to the director’s chair for at least the first film and Garland will write the screenplay for all three chapters. It is the first collaboration between the two in more than fifteen years. Garland once celebrated his breakthrough in Hollywood together with Boyle and also wrote his films ‘The Beach’ and ‘Sunshine’, but now prefers to direct his scripts himself – for example with ‘Ex Machina’, ‘Extinction’ and ‘Men – What are you looking for’ will find you.”

And again Further reported, the duo seems to have very big plans for the dystopian franchise: Each part of the new trilogy would have a budget of around $75 million – more than three times what was available for the first two films combined (!). Whether more than $200 million will ultimately be pumped into the three-parter and there will actually be three films remains to be seen – and likely depends on whatever deal Boyle and Garland get.

That’s what the Zombie series is all about

28 days after animal rights activists free monkeys from an experimental laboratory, London is almost deserted in Boyle’s ’28 Days Later’. Because the animals carried a deadly virus that killed a large part of the population. That’s why Jim (“Oppenheimer” star Cillian Murphy) is surprised when he wakes up from his coma and has no idea what the hell is going on. Until he suddenly encounters blood-spewing, zombie-like beasts in the deserted metropolis…

At 28 weeks it seems Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ’28 Weeks Later’ performed, almost as if the virus had been eradicated. Together with the US government, NATO wants to repopulate England by establishing a new district – surrounded by water on three sides and therefore easy to control. Despite strict surveillance, siblings Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton) and Tammy (Imogen Poots) manage to find their way back to their parents’ house, where they meet their mother, who was presumed dead and infected with the virus.
