1982 is considered one of the best Bordeaux wines of the last century. Even today, many of the wines from this legendary wine year provide the highest level of drinking pleasure. Likewise, many of these wines now sell for several times the price when they were first released.

Our Blick reader Daniel Bodmer from the Bernese Oberland is lucky because he owns two bottles of Château Brane-Cantenac 1982 from the Margaux appellation. Bodmer writes that the two samples had been stored untouched in the wine cellar at 14 degrees for more than 20 years and were undamaged. Now he wants to know how much such a bottle is worth today.

This is how valuable a Château Brane-Cantenac 1982 is

Wine fans know that the wines of the later 1983 vintage in the Bordeaux Margaux appellation are often superior to the 1982 vintages. This also applies to the wines of the 85-hectare Château Brane-Cantenac, so the 1983 vintage is rated slightly better than the 1982. British wine critic Neal Martin (52) last tried and gave a bottle of the 1982 vintage in September 2022. a solid 91 out of 100 possible points. It was two points higher for the same wine in 1983.

This slight advantage in quality also means that the wines of the 1983 vintage are slightly more valuable than the previous year. While you currently have to pay up to 150 francs per 0.75 liter bottle for well-preserved bottles of Château Brane-Cantenac 1983, Daniel Bodmer’s vintage wines usually start from 100 francs. By the way, drinking can also be an option: According to wine critic Martin, well-stored bottles of Bodmers wine have a drinking life of up to 2035.
