‘Big Little Lies’ premiered on HBO in 2017 and quickly became one of the best series of recent years with its star cast and gripping stories. A second season followed in 2019, which unfortunately marked the temporary end of the successful series – because director Jean-Marc Vallée, who directed all seven episodes of the first season and helped determine the creative process of the second season, passed away in December 2021. Afterwards series star Zoe Kravitz, among others, explained that she couldn’t imagine a sequel without the Canadian visionary – thus dashing fans’ hopes for new episodes of ‘Big Little Lies’.
Now the “Big Little Lies” team is apparently venturing into new episodes without Vallée. Because I’m an actress and an executive producer Reese Witherspoon opposite the Golden Globes Variety explained that she is already working on a third season – with co-star and co-producer Nicole Kidman, who also appeared in all previous episodes of the successful series.
Season 3 of “Big Little Lies” is coming
Along with Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz, Witherspoon and Kidman formed the Monterey Five in the series, who found themselves at the police station after the murder of Kidman’s on-screen husband – possibly to confess to the crime. A third season could dedicate itself to the fallout from this confession, with parts of the Monterey Five finding themselves in court and prison, or focus on younger characters.
Shailene Woodley, among others, previously revealed that she could imagine herself telling the stories of the show’s younger characters in season 3 – such as Ian Armitage (“Young Sheldon”) or Kathryn Newton (“The Society”) who are forced to relive their childhood lives. have been outgrown since season 2. The focus on younger characters could see the star cast from previous seasons return more as supporting characters.
