More than 40 years after “Star Wars” & “Indiana Jones”: Hollywood legend does not want to retire yet

John Williams is the embodiment of a Hollywood legend. Over the course of his career, the composer has won 25 Grammys, seven BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes, and has been nominated for an Oscar 53 times (five of which went to him) – between the first nominations for “Valley of the Dolls” and the last one for “The Fabelmans” was 55 years ago. Over half a century.

A long time in which the American achieved everything there was to achieve. He composed the music for Alfred Hitchcock’s last film ‘Family Grave’ and worked with directing greats such as Brian De Palma, Robert Altman, Oliver Stone, Richard Donner and Sydney Pollack. But above all, the composer is of course known for his legendary scores, which he created for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas: John Williams provided the music for “Star Wars”, “Indiana Jones”, “Jaws”, “ET”, “Jurassic Park” and “Harry Potter” – making him an important part of how we bring some of the biggest stars of Hollywood brought together. Discover blockbusters of all time.

In just over a month, Williams, born in 1932, will celebrate his 92nd birthday, but he’s not thinking about quitting just yet. Or rather: not yet. Because even though it recently seemed like his (well-deserved) career was coming to an end – Williams, for example, indicated that he would soon put down the baton permanently – it seems to be increasingly difficult for him to draw a line in the sand. But hey, after almost 70 years you don’t just leave the job you love behind…

John Williams moves on – under the right circumstances

Opposite Williams has now said he would not be averse to continuing. However, the preconditions must be right for this to happen: “If there was a movie that I was very interested in, with a schedule that I could manage, I wouldn’t rule anything out,” Williams said in an interview with the . “Everything is possible. Everything is in front of us. Only our own limitations hold us back. Or rather: I am open-minded.”

For film fans, this is of course great news, because Williams is perhaps the greatest film score composer in film history – whose almost magical works remain unmistakable, fascinating and unparalleled even after decades. Whether the circumstances will ultimately be right so that we can hear Williams in the cinema again remains to be seen. His most recent orchestrations include several short films from the “Star Wars” cosmos, as well as the “Jurassic World: New Adventures” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series.

Do you have a passion for film music or simply can’t get enough of the above-mentioned Hollywood classics? Than It’s definitely worth taking a look at John Williams’ concert calendar and getting a ticket to see the master live – while you still can…
