Vaud: Along the Lavaux vineyards
The start of this impressive tour is at Saint-Saphorin VD in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The medieval town is easily accessible by train and is well worth a visit. The well-marked Steinweg above the lake offers great views of Lake Geneva. On the way is Rivaz VD, where Vinorama Lavaux, the modern wine experience center invites you to stop.
Constantly going to Epeses VD on ups and downs. While there, a detour to Chasselas legend Louis Bovard or the excellent Domaine Croix Duplex is recommended. Both wineries made it to the top five at this year’s Blick Chasselas tasting
There are catering options in the second stage at Riex VD and Aran VD. Via Le Châtelard VD, you reach Lutry VD, where you can continue your journey by water or train.
Neuchatel: hillside walk from Boudry to Saint-Aubin
Accompanied by the view of the snow-covered Alps, this varied hike takes about three hours. The starting point is at Boudry NE train station on the outskirts of the village. There, yellow walking signs point the way to Bevaix NE. As soon as the rushing Areuse is passed, the first vines appear.
From Bevaix we continue towards Fresens NE. Panorama makes you forget about increased hunger. You can take a break at Auberge du Plan Jacot. After a glass of local rosé “Oeil de Perdrix,” for example, the route takes you west via Chatillon to the junction near Gorgier NE, where the route to the destination, Saint-Aubin NE train station, goes down.
Friborg: hiking Mont Vully
If you want to go a little higher, you have to “climb” 653 m Mont Vully. Here, in Switzerland’s smallest viticulture region, three themed trails come together. From Praz FR, the botanical trail climbs quite steeply to the summit of Mont Vully, where an extraordinary view beckons you. The panorama of the Three Lakes region, the Alps and the Jura makes up for the effort.
From the observation point, we continue to the walls of Helveti, where the historical road leads over a rock to the old military equipment of the First World War and finally to the famous Vully caves. This is where the Rebweg starts and leads back to Praz via the promenade. After three and a half hours of walking, the reward is a piece of Gâteau du Vully and a glass of Chasselas, twice as delicious.
Valais: Vineyard Road from Salquenen to Sièrre
The theme track on the French language border is especially suitable for those who are thirsty for knowledge. The start is in the historic Zumofenhaus in the wine-producing village of Salquenen VS (Salgesch in German). In an hour-and-a-half steep hike, you have the opportunity to let the vines, original wine villages and the rough Rasille Gorge work their magic on you. Along the scenic route, rustic wooden chalets stand out.
The final spot is the Château de Villa in Sierre VS, one of the two locations of the Valais Wine Museum. Culinary charms lure you in the castle. In addition to a restaurant with Valais specialties, the largest Valais wine shop offers you more than 650 local wines.
Geneva: Hermance to Choulex
This 4.5-hour hike between the Arve river and Lake Geneva is a bit longer. Along the way, the terraces invite you to take a pleasant break with Geneva wine and delicacies.
The launch is in Hermance GE, right over the lake. You can reach the cute village by bus or boat. The trail runs through the vineyards between the French border and the lake to Anières GE.
After Corsier GE you will discover the idyllic landscape called Entre Arve et Lac. The route takes you past the Le Marais du Château nature reserve to Choulex GE. From here you can reach Geneva city center in just twenty minutes by bus.
