With “Jupiter Ascending,” Lana and Lilly Wachowski (“Matrix”) set out to capture a sci-fi fairy tale like the world has never seen before. Armed with a hefty budget of $175 million, the directing duo did everything they could to unleash their unabashed passion for gigantic special effects and eccentric ideas. The result, however, was sobering: the international critics didn’t like the spectacle and at the box office the film hit its production costs with a bang – and can therefore be seen as an extreme flop.
