“Harry Potter” chasing records: this is how much JK Rowling earned from the current sequel

With the ‘Harry Potter’ saga, JK Rowling created one of THE pop culture phenomena of the past 25 years. Everyone knows the story of the legendary sorcerer’s student, who once lived locked up under the stairs of his annoying relatives and eventually became the hero of Hogwarts – and this of course also has an impact on the bank balance of the successful author. It has to be loud now worth well over a billion.

Although the film series led by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint came to an end in 2011 with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”, Rowling still makes good money from her fantasy hit – for example through book sales, the not so successful filmed series ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and, more recently, a stage play. For the latter, things have been moving in the right direction lately: After Corona obviously had a drastic impact on visitor numbers, it’s okay even record numbers for Rowling’s theater production. And now it’s been revealed: JK Rowling has already earned more than $10.5 million from ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’.

How According to reports, the author’s check is worth £8.25 million – which is ultimately down to the fact that the ‘post-pandemic crowd-pleaser’ recently managed to attract more people to the theaters again. In London, where the play can be seen at the Palace Theatre, figures for the work, which was launched in 2016, have now returned to pre-Corona levels. Moreover, the Broadway version playing at the Lyric Theater in New York is also profitable.

In Germany, you can see the sequel, set 19 years after the main series, in Hamburg. The latecomer sequel has been running in this country since 2020. In 2024, fans can also look forward to a special guest appearance: the star of ‘Dark’ and ‘He’s Back’ Oliver Masucciwho stars as Anton Vogel in “Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets“, which is already part of the Potter cosmos, will be on stage between February 29 and March 10, 2024 – playing Severus Snape in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”!

That’s what ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ is about

Nearly two decades after the great battle between Harry Potter and the dark Lord Voldemort, we return to Hogwarts, where a new generation of witches and wizards are being prepared for their extraordinary lives – but of course Harry Potter is back too! Even if he now faces completely different challenges:

An employee of the Ministry of Magic, he now works in magical law enforcement – and is married to Ginny Weasley, who makes her living as a Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet. The two have three children together, although their youngest son, Albus Severus, is of particular concern to them. He increasingly distances himself from his father – following in his famous footsteps seems completely impossible…

By the way, fans can look forward to more “Harry Potter” supplies soon. A series is currently in development, with production set to begin in 2024. There are no further details about the cast yet. It is expected that director David Yates, who directed four of the eight films, will not return:

Author: Daniel Fabian
