Crazy tentacled complacency in the long version?
Skrein doesn’t give exact details, but he does tease it -Interview states that a scene in the long version has the potential to disturb the audience. It is a sequence only touched upon in the version released on Netflix so far: in the adult version, Atticus Noble is disturbed in his bedroom by a subordinate. We briefly see a pair of tentacles that suggest: Atticus Noble is having some kind of sex here. The actor doesn’t reveal what really happens, but does give a few hints.
The scene will feel completely different in the extended version.
There is a lot of ambiguity deliberately put into the sequence so that the audience doesn’t know exactly what is happening here. Even in the extended version, this remains somewhat the case: there the scene is “obviously much more elaborate and maybe a little less ambiguous, but there are still ambiguous things in it,” says Skrein. Much can also be attributed to his ideas:
“I kept making suggestions like: “Wouldn’t it be cool if I got up and had a weird alien vibrator or a damn alien sex toy?” And not something like a dildo, but something ambiguous.”
So Skrein suggests that in this scene we don’t see Noble having sexual intercourse with a tentacle monster, but that these tentacles are part of a device with which the character masturbates… some relaxation after a hard day of work full of killing, torture and other sadistic things.
The actor also hints that drugs also play a role. He talked to Zack Snyder a lot about drugs. It’s a reasonable assumption that Noble gets drunk somehow. The scene is also special because it is the only moment where you see the tyrant in private. He believes this will be the only time it can be seen privately.
The moment is also indicative of Noble’s reanimation at the end and the devices in his body for this purpose.
