These are the 20 most successful films of the year

The cinema year was not only characterized by ‘Barbenheimer’ memes, the strike in Hollywood was also a major topic. Therefore, several films, for example “Dune 2” and “Deadpool 3”, were postponed until next year.

“Barbie” is the first film by a female director to gross more than $1 billion. Greta Gerwig is the most successful female director.

‘Sound of Freedom’, ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ and ‘The Marvels’ narrowly missed the list. ‘Wonka’, the new film with Timothée Chalamet, which has only been in cinemas since the beginning of this month, still has a chance to climb the ladder of most popular films. He currently ranks 31st with worldwide earnings of $162 million (as of December 21).

Also in Switzerland, ‘Barbie’ is the film that attracted the most people to the cinemas; more than 700,000 Swiss saw the film in the cinema.

Pro Cinema’s stats include not only films released this year, but also films from December 2022. “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” were released in 2022. Both films scored this year still very high in the cinema statistics.
