Henry Cavill is a big gaming fan himself. So it’s no wonder that he poured his heart and soul into the Netflix film adaptation ‘The Witcher’, which is based on the Witcher franchise. But the creative collaboration did not really work out, after three seasons of ‘The Witcher’ Cavill have now been released, Geralt of Rivia will be played by Liam Hemsworth from season 4 (of which there is no current news). But Cavill has the next game adaptation in the pipeline, both as star and producer: the highly anticipated “Warhammer 40,000“-Series.
But now it is clear: it can be so much more than just a series on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service. Game Workshop rights holders have one Blog post given an update. Not only is the contract with Amazon finally finalized and work can begin – There’s talk of a “Warhammer 40,000” universe coming to “screens big and small.” We have deliberately left the original English word ‘screens’ here because we can both screens and screens mean. And ‘big screen’ is often the cinema screen.
“Warhammer 40K”: first film, series or both?
But in the cinema only films are shown and not series? That’s the next bit of information – whether for the big screen or the Amazon screen: Not only is a “Warhammer 40K” series planned, there could be movies coming out as well – maybe even both at the same time. It has been rumored from the start that it could involve an entire film and series franchise, but after only talk of the “Warhammer 40K” series by and featuring Henry Cavill, Game Workshop has now once again revised the film plans confirmed. You now have to decide what to start with!
After the contracts have been signed and the next phase can begin, now comes the “fun part”, according to the blog post: “Working out all the creative details with our partners and writing the first scripts and putting them into production. Which ‘Warhammer 40,000’ stories should we tell first? Should we start with a movie or a series? In which?!”
Henry Cavill is now officially involved as executive producer and will contribute “his pen and his sword and/or spear” to development and subsequent filming.
“Warhammer 40K” probably won’t launch until 2026
But a lot of patience is still needed, even though it has now ‘really started’: ‘TV and film productions are a gigantic undertaking. It is not unusual for it to take two to three years from that point before something is published.’
“Warhammer 40,000” or simply “Warhammer 40K” is a so-called table game in which miniature figures are moved on a playing field based on a complex set of rules. The game expanded the franchise around the fantasy game “Warhammer”. “Warhammer 40,000” is set in the dystopian future of the distant 41st and 42nd millennium, However, not in the future of the ‘Warhammer’ world, but in our world – but there are similarities. What fantasy creatures are in the world of Warhammer, aliens or evolved creatures are on Earth in the science fiction world of “Warhammer 40K”. You can discover more about this in our video:
