Are you a fan of “Downton Abbey” and can’t get enough of “Bridgerton”? Then you have to make a detour to Apple TV+, because ‘The Buccaneers’ is a title there that follows a similar theme to a romantic historical series. The first season only started here at the beginning of November 2023 – but that’s not the end of it.
As has now been officially confirmed, “The Buccaneers” will be getting a second season, which will also be available as a subscription on Apple TV+. Even though the streaming service doesn’t make the numbers for its formats public, the series has apparently been so well received that it should be delivered quickly. “The Buccaneers” is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize winner and “Age of Innocence” author Edith Wharton, titled “The Buccaneers” in German. She was never able to finish the book because she had died earlier. It was completed in 1993 by Marion Manwaring. Behind the scenes, the series itself also stands out because it was developed by an all-female creative team.
At the center of the plot is Nan St. George (Kiristine Froseth) and her fun-loving friends. They are among the new rich in America and have a lot of money, but do not yet have a title of nobility that can enjoy higher prestige. That should change now. The women need suitable husbands, so Nan and her loved ones travel to London to hunt for men while bringing a breath of fresh air to the dusty ballrooms.
