After the jury’s decision was announced (a verdict with punishment will follow), Marvel responded immediately. Jonathan Majors is no longer part of the MCU as Kang. The actor has split after a jury found him guilty of two of four charges in a criminal trial – including a charge of bodily harm and a charge of harassment. Majors was charged with being violent toward his then-girlfriend in the spring of 2023.
Fans wondered if Marvel would simply recast Kang’s role or if they would embark on a new plan for the MCU. It seems like the decision was made a long time ago.
‘Avengers 5’ may no longer be called ‘The Kang Dynasty’
The reported, that the fifth ‘Avengers’ film at Marvel, previously titled ‘The Kang Dynasty’, will have only the tentative working title ‘Avengers 5” works. There’s no official announcement yet, but it looks like Marvel is moving away from the Kang character entirely.
It’s not a quick fix either. The case against Majors had been going on for a long time and Marvel was able to prepare for it. What we suspected is also what we believe : As Marvel makes “Loki” and “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” in November 2023author Michael Waldron was hired to rework the script for “Avengers 5,” with the ulterior motive of replacing Kang.
But Waldron’s mission may be much bigger. He might have to rework the entire finale for the current Multiverse saga.
Doctor Doom as new villain – for the two-part ‘Secret Wars’?
There have been rumors for some time that legendary comic book villain Doctor Doom will be the next major opponent for the Avengers. He could now replace Kang. That makes perfect sense. Doom is the villain in the legendary comic “Secret Wars”. This serves as inspiration for some of the events at the end of the current Multiverse saga in the MCU. “Avengers 6” is also subtitled “Secret Wars” – and was long written by Michael Waldron.
A new rumor now says that Waldron is expanding his idea for “Secret Wars” and incorporating elements from the old “Kang Dynasty” script. Ultimately, ‘Secret Wars’ will consist of two parts. “Avengers 5” will be like “Secret Wars: Part 1”, “Avengers 6” will be like “Secret Wars: Part 2”. The films should then be even more connected than previously planned – something like “Avengers 3: Infinity War” and “Avengers 4: Endgame”. With now one author for both titles, this is guaranteed.
Currently “Avengers 5“ scheduled for April 2026, “Avengers 6before May 2027.
