It’s one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood history: Henry Cavill returns as Superman – starting with an appearance in the mid-credit scene of “Black Adam“. And that’s no coincidence, because for Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson, Cavill’s return was a personal matter he had a hand in. But as has now become known, Cavill’s performance as Superman isn’t just about a single fight against Black Adam. The Rock and Co plans. are much more extensive.
“It was never about a single movie or just a fight. No, it’s so much more than that,” explains Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia, a longtime partner of Dwayne Johnson and business partner. . “We want to create a long storytelling style and show that these two characters exist in the same universe and often interact with each other, either on the same or opposite sides.”
Superman & Black Adam or Superman vs. Black Adam?
This actually fits the end credits scene too, because even though Black Adam himself looks quite gloomy, his counterpart greets him with the words “We need to talk.” , it should probably come with Superman too. For example, we might well imagine that Black Adam and Superman must fight an overwhelming threat together.
But of course the two also need to be put on a confrontational course, but apparently not directly: “Hopefully they will clash too, but it’s not just a one-fight situation. That was never our dream. That doesn’t pay off for the fans either. The fans want to feel these guys walking together,” Garcia said.
If we interpret these statements correctly, multiple films with Black Adam and Superman are planned, in which the two characters meet again and again and exchange strong arguments from time to time. A Black Adam guest appearance in “Man of Steel 2‘, which is now actively promoted again. A real confrontation or a final duel should not come until the distant future.
Whether these plans can be implemented at all is of course another matter, because Studio Warner will also have a say in this. And Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill also have to find the necessary space in their busy schedules. But if any actor has the clout to push through these ambitious plans, it has to be Dwayne Johnson.
The condition for this is that “Black Adam” does not go down at the cash register. Early reviews – including our FILMSTARS review – have been very mixed so far, but that doesn’t necessarily have an impact on success or failure…
“Black Adam” on the podcast
The current song of our podcast is of course also about “Black Adam”. Moderator Sebastian discusses with his guests Pascal and Julius from the editors of FILMSTARTS – and since “Morbius” there hasn’t been such harsh, unanimous criticism of a film. Listen or see for yourself in the cinema:
